The weekend before Thanksgiving we were all just itching for some Christmas spirit! Jeff believes that Thanksgiving is the forgotten holiday and that it deserves it's own time, so while the rest of the world is ready for Christmas about 30 seconds after Halloween, we have to hold out enjoy waiting until the day after Thanksgiving to start celebrating Christmas.
However, this particular weekend we decided to live it up Christmas style! We left early Saturday and headed to Biltmore, the perfect place for a dose of Christmas spirit.
After ohhing and ahhing over the elaborate decorations, we toured the grounds in hopes of getting the perfect Christmas card picture...
well maybe mediocre picture...
Let's try that one again, maybe with the parents this time??
Perfect background, no faces.
Here is a sweet picture of brotherly love...
and the happy headlock that follows.
Oh well, no perfect shot, but plenty of beautiful memories!
That night we read Elf on the Shelf and introduced the kids to our new elf Doodle.
After some hot cocoa, we turned on the Christmas music and whipped up a batch of daddy's favorite Christmas cookies.
Turns out they are someone else's favorite too! I found this little stinker had pulled open the oven door and used it as a step stool to reach the cooling cookies. After eating half dozen of the chocolate kisses off the cookies I caught him red-handed. At least he looks remorseful:)
Sunday afternoon, we went to the park (to try unsuccessfully for that Christmas card photo) and to enjoy the fleeting autumn weather and the fall colors one last time.
Goodbye fall.
